Venezuela- Wealthiest Country in South America turns into one of the Poorest Countries

Before the late 1980s and into the 1990s, Venezuela was one of the wealthiest countries in South America. After a few wrong turns, they elected President Hugo Chavez, who sent the country of Venezuela into a downward spiral. Shortly after he was elected as president, he turned Venezuela into a socialistic society. Since then, millions have tried to flee the country and find their way of life back again. “Socialism not only takes away from people the access to basic food and medicines but also creates an environment in which life is not worth nothing.” (Giannina Raffo) Giannina Raffo was an individual who fled from Venezuela and was under the control of the socialistic form of government.
The reality is that the young adults who so desperately want a socialistic form of government genuinely do not understand the detrimental consequences that flow from it. Millions of individuals in Venezuela would do anything to live in the United States now. They highly warn the individuals in the United States against falling into the trap of the fairytales and lies that’s supposedly come from a socialistic government. Everybody in the country of Venezuela has seen the cause and effects of this type of government. What people need to understand in the U.S. is the consequences and how it will affect people. If the U.S. wants to make a move and move into a socialistic form of government, this would most likely be for life. For Venezuela, there was no going back. Just like every person in Venezuela was affected, so will every American.
Although they have this situation in Venezuela, recent studies show Americans and specifically young Americans warming up to the idea of a socialistic society in the past couple of years. This is relevant here and now. Individuals must see the cause-and-effect in the country of Venezuela in order to prevent another great and prospering country from failing. Just like Venezuela was the wealthiest country in South America, it quickly became one of the poorest. America is one of the best and most prospering countries in the world; it would soon become one of the poorest in the most control. This is relevant today.
Although there’s a lot of emotion played into this idea and decision, many people feel that a switch to this kind of government would truly help each individual. But they forget that not every individual has the same thought process in mind. Just like in Venezuela, riots would break out, constant attacks on private property, and harmful economic policies would be in place. One moment individuals’ heart and minds we’re on the right track but soon taken advantage of by the government. Just like in Venezuela, riots would break out in the U.S., private property would be attacked, and the government would put economic policies in place. Although there’s a lot of emotion played into it all, Americans cannot be naive.
